SAXON: Channel 4 Documentary 'Wasn't The Film We Or The Director Thought We Were Making'

April 13, 2007

British heavy metal veterans SAXON were the subject of this past Tuesday's (April 10) "Get Your Act Together with Harvey Goldsmith" documentary series on U.K.'s Channel 4 in which legendary Live Aid and Live 8 promoter Harvey Goldsmith attempted "to help revive the fortunes of six entertainment businesses in desperate need of a boost, and set them back on the path to the big time." His task with SAXON was to get the band a hit single in Britain. The program aired on Tuesday on Channel 4 and was followed by an accompanying E4 series, "Get Your Act Together: The Showdown", which went behind the scenes of the show and reunited Harvey with each act. SAXON frontman Biff Byford has since posted the following message on the group's web site:

"So all you British fans have seen the two programs, we had great fun reading your comments. Although the show that went out was nothing like the first idea when they approached us, the format of the show of showing the band struggling and then Harvey comes in and makes us successful leaves a lot to be desired and was only to be expected. However, we feel our involvement with Harvey and Channel 4 has been fantastic for the band's profile. We cannot even list the amount of mentions me and the band got in the national press. So sometimes you have to go with the flow but it wasn't the film we or the director thought we were making."

SAXON will release their "anti-gun-crime" single, "If I Was You", in the U.K. on April 16 via SPV Records. All proceeds from the single will be split equally between The Non Violence Foundation and the Gun Control Network.

SAXON's video for "If I Was You" has been posted at YouTube. The track comes off the British heavy metal legends' latest album, "The Inner Sanctum", which was released in early March.
